A Word from your President

A WORD FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Shwmae!

I’m Celt John, and I am the President for UMCB 2023-24.

I’m a familiar face to most of you because I was fortunate enough to be your President last year. However, calling myself the ‘President’ of an establishment that has been so central to my university experience is still quite strange, but it definitely makes me excited to be in charge again this year.

For those of you who don’t know me yet, I’m from Dolgellau (where that Starbucks on the A470 is) and I graduated in 2022 with a degree in Welsh and Music. When I was a student, a large part of my social life was UMCB events, from the sub-societies such as Aelwyd JMJ to supporting the sports teams and attending Cymric events. As new students here, remember that you are welcome to be as involved with UMCB as you want and that you don’t have to commit to everything – focus on the things that suit you! Having said that, I recommend that you throw yourself into the lively student lifestyle that we have here at Bangor through UMCB and the Union in order to make the most of your experience here.

A key part of my job this year will be to ensure that the academic rights of Welsh students are respected, and that your voice is heard by the University regarding any issue. Remember that I am here to help and support you and that I am more than ready to do so by all means, so don’t hesitate to come see me for a chat. You can find me in my office at Undeb Bangor on the fourth floor in Pontio, my office in Neuadd JMJ on Mondays or around the University.

Welcome to Bangor, and enjoy every minute here!
