Bangor is the only University in Wales that charge ยฃ12 for guests to come to graduation.

I along with many of my peers believe that it is outrageous that we have to pay ยฃ12 to bring guests to our graduation ceremony. What is this money used for? The seats are already in the hall. Having researched and spoken to students and staff from other Universities, Bangor seems to be in the minority of Universities charging for two guests to attend the ceremony. I have researched and believe all other Universities in Wales allow each student to have two guest tickets for free and then additional tickets can either be bought or are free. This is also the case for many universities in the UK such as Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, The University of Stirling and Leicester (some of these are universities the Vice Chancellor has worked at).

Not only do a vast majority of students and their families have to travel to Bangor often from different countries or hundreds of miles away, they have to pay for transport to get here and for accommodation in order to stay and arrive at graduation on time.

Students are paying ยฃ9000 a year for their education, they then have to pay to ยฃ45 to wear the correct gown (Cardiff Met have these for free) in order to graduate as well as money for a graduation outfit.

With Bangor being the only University in Wales requiring students guests to pay for tickets for the ceremony I think this needs to be looked at and changed.

Bangor is also in North Wales which is an under privileged area so this extra cost does not go unnoticed.

Agreed, not to mention that finding accommodation is limited in north wales, thus families are having to opt for more expensive options to watch their kids graduate

I agree, we spend three or more years getting a degree and there arenโ€™t enough tickets or spaces for more than two family members to come? Expensive tickets for more

As a gold standard university it should be made available for free as the other universities have who are not of gold standard

If I have to take out a loan just to be here, I'd better be getting the most out of it. You're telling me ยฃ9,000 from every student doesn't cover having guests attend something they find important? Pathetic

That is unfair that Bangor charges our friends and family to see us graduate. We all work hard to achieve this great achievement and they want to see us on the stage and receive our award. Come on Bangor do better!!!

I agree. My family come from abroad and the fact that I still have to pay for them to attend, and I canโ€™t even bring my brother alongside my two parents because there are only two seats pero student, is shocking.
