Repair Cafe on the BBC

On Tuesday the 25th of October, for the very first time, we ran a very exciting new project on the campus which was called the Repair Café. It was a great success where students, volunteers, staff and people from the community showed up. The Repair Café was a great chance for people to bring clothes that needs to be fixed in some sort of way and go home with that piece of clothing like new. The main reason why we decided to go ahead with this project was because of the emergency of the cost of living that’s happening at the moment, we wanted to help our students and the community through this crisis.

The BBC has taken a big interest in the Repair Café and it will be promoted on the BBC tonight. As said in the article we are one of the latest places to have opened a Repair Café which is also open to the community. Just like Sam Dickins, one of our Sabs said, he would much rather bring his jeans into the Repair Café than have to buy new ones for £20, at least then now he can have an extra £20 in his pocket. Sam also said that the cost of living is obviously having an effect on their behavior. He also stated that students are more likely to be going around the house wearing a hat, coat, and socks rather than putting the heating on in the house, which is also having an environmental effect.

We would like to thank everyone that came along to the café and we hope to organise another one very soon.
