Blog 2023

This year has definitely had its ups and downs!

There are times where this job can be really challenging; when students, the SU and the University are out of sync with each other.  Trying to find the right balance between escalating student feedback without being unfairly critical. Trying to resource student lead activity to the best of our ability in spite of our limited resources and trying to find the time in the day to do it all!

There are times in the year that I have had over 7,000 emails unread in my inbox, over 12 hour working days and struggle to find the time to give everything that is important to students and the campaigns that I am working on the time and enthusiasm that they deserve.  But all of this is 100% (โ€ฆ99%) worth it as the job can also be the best in the world; I get to see students run events like the one world gala, winter balls and incredible fundraisers I get to see the University take on student feedback and get incredible wins such as ยฃ2 meals, abolished graduation fees and cheaper accommodation and I get to see students really making the most out of University, participating in clubs societies volunteering projects, going on incredible socials and attending competitions like Varsity and the Eisteddfod.

Students, the SU and the University working in harmony to incredible effect implementing change, running events and working together to really improve life as a student. There is always a long way to go but I truly believe that we have achieved a lot this year and made significant improvements to studentsโ€™ lives and I hope that this work will continue over the summer and into next academic year.  I hope the table below gives you as much pride for our achievements and excitement for the future as I have.
