Join Your  Debating Union

 

The Bangor Union is proud to be the oldest debating union in Wales.  We offer a welcoming, inclusive space for students of all backgrounds and experience levels to thoughtfully express and explore ideas. It's a place to discuss current affairs, test arguments, and develop your voice—whether you're a seasoned speaker or joining your very first debate.

 

Each week, we host engaging debates on a wide range of topics: from politics and current affairs to ethics, culture, and fun, light-hearted motions. You’ll have the chance to:

• Sharpen your skills in public speaking, argument building, and quick thinking.

• Engage with new perspectives by debating and discussing with fellow students.

• Make friends and have fun at our socials, from post-debate chats to nights out.

Whether you want to speak up, challenge opinions, or just sit back and listen, there’s a place for you at BUDS. No pressure, no prior experience—just curiosity and an open mind.

📍 Weekly meetings on Thursday 6-8pm during term time

🎤 Opportunities to debate, listen, or join in the conversation

🍻 Followed by informal socials where the debate continues off the floor
