Student Officer Elections

The Student Officer Elections at Undeb Bangor are your opportunity to choose the student representatives who help shape university life. Student Officers work full-time alongside Undeb Bangor staff at the 4th Floor, Pontio in Bangor, acting as the voice of students across the University while supporting campaigns, events, and key decision-making.

If you’re interested in standing or want to learn more about how the process works, support is available throughout every stage of the election journey.

What is a Student Officer?

Student Officers are elected student representatives, who work alongside Undeb Bangor’s full-time staff, helping to guide the campaigns and events as well as being the voice for students at high levels across the University. The Student Officers are based at Undeb Bangor on the 4th Floor, Pontio in Bangor, working 37.25 hours per week. As the officer role is full time, successful candidates will be required to pause their studies to fulfil the role. Due to the Education Act, a Student Officer can remain in role for a maximum of 2 years.

How do I become a Student Officer?

While you get paid a salary to be a Student Officer, it isn’t like a ‘normal job’ where you apply, interview and get offered the job. Instead, Student Officers are chosen via an election that is open to all registered students at Bangor University. Putting yourself forward as a candidate in the Student Officer Election takes courage, which is why the Election Team is here to support you.

1. Nominations

This opens in January. Students nominate themselves to run in the election for one of the four roles available by submitting a manifesto. You’ll then be invited to a briefing session to get a better understanding of what happens next.

2. Campaigning

This takes place for a week before the vote opens. This is your time to be around campus, with a team of your friends too if you like and speak to students to tell them why they should vote for you.

3. The Election

This takes place over 2 ½ days in March. Votes can be made on the Undeb Bangor website, and you’ll also find staff walking around campus with links to how to vote.

4. Election Results

Elections Night takes place in Bar Uno. We announce the new officers and it’s an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of everyone that took part in the election.
