Changes to Elected Student Officer Roles - Shaped by Your Feedback

Wednesday 17-12-2025 - 10:31

Thank you to everyone who took part in the recent consultation on the future of our Elected
Student Officer roles. Your feedback was vital in shaping the decision made by the Trustee
Board.

What did students say?

โ€ข Overall sentiment: 75% of students supported the proposed changes.
โ€ข President: Students welcomed a clearer focus on student life issues, campaigns, and
governance, making the role more visible and relevant.
โ€ข Vice President of Education: Strong support for keeping this role as the lead for academic
representation, with calls for more visibility and student-facing campaigns.
โ€ข Llywydd UMCB โ€“ Welsh Language Officer: Overwhelming support for strengthening
Welsh language advocacy and cultural engagement, with suggestions to make the role
more inclusive and visible.
โ€ข VP Student Communities: Many students liked its focus on inclusion, belonging, and
advocacy for underrepresented groups, and saw it as a positive step toward building
stronger student communities. Some concerns were raised about ensuring sports,
societies, and volunteering remain well represented something we will address by
strengthening executive structures and regular forums.

What will change?

From the 2026โ€“27 officer elections, there will be four full-time Elected Student Officers:

โ€ข President โ€“ leading on student life, campaigns, and governance
โ€ข Vice President Education โ€“ representing academic experience
โ€ข Vice President Student Communities โ€“ a new role designed to lead on belonging,
inclusion, and student community-building across the student experience, and will
champion the interests of students involved in sports, societies, and volunteering as
strong student communities
โ€ข Llywydd UMCB โ€“ Welsh Language Officer โ€“ representing and advocating for Welsh
speakers the Welsh language and culture

Whatโ€™s next?

Weโ€™ll now:
โ€ข Look to strengthen AU, Societies, Volunteering, and UMCB structures to keep specialist
voices strong
โ€ข Review staff support and operational delivery
โ€ข Prepare for the 2026 elections and share more details soon

Thank you again for helping shape these changes. Your feedback ensures these roles reflect what matters most to students.
