My name is Payne Oluwabukunmi Johnson, a citizen of Nigeria and a Post-graduate MBA Accounting and Finance student at Bangor University.

Why did you choose to represent that Group of Students?

The reason why i choose to represent the group of student is to serve as the primary advocacy organization for Black students,to act as chief liaison between Black students and the University administration, to advocate for equality, respect and transparency within Black Student, to represent the black student by having someone who looks like them or can at least understand their culture, to be the person that the students can confide in and be able to place their concerns and ideas forward and reassure the student that their voices are being heard, to Eliminate any form of racism in which any Black Student may/might encounter during their course of study in the University, to grow student involvement within Black Student by celebrating religious, cultural holidays and offering days to celebrate different foods, music and cultural differences, prioritising the education of Black History month and other historical events important to Black students via student forums, to aspire to empower students by providing a forum where we can share ideas, experiences, information, and issues that are common for Black students and to ensure students are aware of Black Student support mechanisms. This can be achieved by having regular talks and workshops by societies and specialist speakers.

What do you want to achieve as a Student Council Officer?

Speak Up, Be Together and Increasing awareness! One of my achievement will be to promote the health and wellbeing as a Student Council Officer by raising awareness on important and more pressing health issues like mental health and all other issues that concerns Students at large. I aim to have more minority led events as well. I’m really looking forward to engaging with students in my role under the wider Liberation umbrella. Most of us have completely different experiences at University, but I see this as an oppurtunity not a hindrance - I’m really looking forward to learning from the students I represent and as a Student Council Officer! In other to be able to achieve this goal i am open for more idea in other to establish a Solid Black Student Council because there are lots of ideas to share. I am here to serve you, so join me and let's do this together.
