Reduce the extent to which smoking happens in University areas highly populated, whilst providing a sheltered area for smoking that is located away from building entrances.
This idea is based on the recent policy change at Cardiff Met University who have banned smoking across all their campuses. However, we are proposing some middle ground, which will hopefully be of benefit to both smokers and non-smokers. Non-smokers are currently being put in a position where they often have to inhale smoke when walking in and out of buildings. The current smoking regulations are NOT currently upheld by the University. This has massive health implications. On the other hand, smokers’ feedback suggests that if they had somewhere sheltered to smoke with bins provided, they would be much more likely to use these areas.
