End of the year supply donation/garage sale for students

      What do you want?

An event at the end/beginning of the school year where students (specifically those close to graduating) can donate or sell the things that they don't need anymore, and so that other students can get free or cheap supplies if they like. Anything from extra blankets/kitchen equipment/textbooks/clothes and anything else that might be unneccessary or too bulky to move with, and that somebody else may need/want.

      Why do you want it?

I am a senior moving back home at the end of the year, and I know for a fact that there is quite a bit of stuff that I will not be able to take with me because it is too bulky, or just not needed or worth the cost of shipping it home. I can imagine I am not the only one who may have amassed a lot of extra things they do not need, and in lieu of all these things being thrown out and going to waste, I thought that maybe if there was some sort of way for students to donate their things or sell them at a garage sale type event to future/other students then it would save a lot of money and be better for the planet as well.

10:20am on 26 Sep 19 This is a great idea, for Exchange / International Students as well. But the date(s) should be set so that people who move out in June/July can make it before leaving. I guess this makes it complicated for Freshers to buy stuff, since they arrive later... So maybe it would be good to invite people from outside the university to the events, too. For me, it would be mainly about giving the things I can't take with me a second and maybe even third life instead of throwing them away, so I can imagine offering cheap or even free items.

noon on 26 Sep 19 Yes, I was thinking there would be a donation drive (for the things we just want to get rid of) and "selling" (for more expensive stuff we dont just want to give away, like some kitchen equipment, consoles, etc) event in May (before people start leaving) and then a free stuff event in September. That way the people leaving have an opportunity to get rid of as much stuff as they can before they go, and the first years have a ready supply of free stuff ready to pick up the next semester. We could also put up fliers around Bangor to get some awareness for people outside the university to also get involved. I'm not exactly sure about the logistics of it all and the extent of what we can do, but if the idea gets enough support I may be able to discuss it with the students union to work out a plan.
