    Gender-neutral toilets in university buildings

    Passed

      What do you want?

Gender-neutral toilet provision, separate from disabled/accessible toilets, in all university buildings.

      Why do you want it?

Currently none of the university buildings I use on a regular basis have proper gender-neutral toilets. This presents a difficult situation for many trans* and non-binary people as we either have to go home to use the toilet, which is obviously not ideal, or use accessible toilets, which is also not satisfactory as, of course, having these gender identities is not a disabillity, and forcing us to use them also potentially makes them less available to those who need them.

12:02pm on 11 Nov 18 This is something that should really be provided without debate, as soon as the university is made aware of the issue. Being able to use a toilet is a necessity that should be available to everyone. It is especially difficult for those undergoing a transition. I have friends that have been questioned (sometimes very aggressively) for going into toilets that people didn't think they were 'allowed' to be in. The alternative is to use a gendered bathroom they don't identify with (which also has led to confrontations) or try to find a non-gendered disabled toilet, which obviously need to be left available for people with a disability.
