Wales three years ago, having been captivated by the landscape and the Welsh-speaking community of the area during an open day visit. Having now graduated in Design and Technology and Secondary Education, he is keen to support and lead the Welsh community that made his life as a student so memorable.
As well as his commitment to his education Iwan was passionate about UMCB during his time as a student. He served as 1st Year Representative, JMJ President, a member of Y Cymric - the UMCB events' and societies’ group - and as Sports’ Representative on UMCB's executive committee over his three years as an undergraduate. He also captained Y Cymric's men's rugby team during his 2nd year. Standing for the role of UMCB President was therefore a natural step for him, and he is keen to make the most of this unique opportunity to ensure that the University's Welsh-speaking students have the same level of opportunities and experience as much enjoyment as he did as a student.
He was brought up through the medium of Welsh and the language has been an extremely important part of his life. With both Bangor University and Undeb Bangor leading the higher education sector regarding the provision of Welsh medium education, he feels that this is the ideal opportunity to support and secure the rights of the university's Welsh speaking students. He is a sociable person who enjoys conversation and encourages all Welsh-speaking students to approach him with any issues, as he is fully confident that he will be ready to assist and ensure that the voice of our Welsh-speaking students is heard and taken seriously.
