Here it is, my final blog! It’s been a while since I last did one of these and to say a lot has happened is certainly an understatement… I’m incredibly proud of how our students have coped and excelled since Covid-19 and how so many of our opportunities have adapted online! Bangor has been the best part of my life for the last 5 years and I’m very sad to be leaving but I’ll definitely be back to visit. I just wanted to outline a few highlights from my year as VP Education and my very brief stint as President.
?? Represented you in over 70 meetings directly related to Covid-19 planning, feeding in your opinions and fully representing you
?? Created the Undeb Bangor Corona Community FB Page with over 1100 members since lockdown and great engagement.
?? Took 50 students down to London for free to take part in the People’s Vote March, attended by over 1.2 million people!
?? Created a full report on student opinions of University life in September, running 14 focus groups making sure your voices are heard.
??14/18 schools now have common rooms including 3 new refurbs with more to come and 4 new water fountains across campus (and 2 more replaced)
??Job Opportunities - Secured over £2000 for student opportunities and provided employment to over 35 students since September
??Panopto is now University wide policy
??Sustainability campaigns - single use plastics can now be recycled at the SU and have pressured the University to sign the Fossil Fuel Declaration and now the university is 100% renewable energy
??Hosted a number of feedback sessions for Under-Represented Groups such as Disabled Students and International Students
??Led very successful Register to Vote and General Election campaigns including hosting a Question Time hustings event with MP Candidates
??Trial of longer opening hours for Wrexham Library students and a permanent 24hr computer room
?? Spearheaded the move to a new SU website for next year
??Launched Circuit Laundry survey at and built foundations for a contract renewal later this year.
It really has been an honour to be elected twice and I’ve loved every second of it! I’m super grateful to everyone who has made it such a good year albeit with the pretty rubbish ending but I look forward to seeing all that the new Sabb team do this year and how they can take Undeb Bangor to its next strength!
