Surf:

Bangor University Surf team do a lot for sustainability. Since October 2018 their socials and free food events have been completely single-use plastic free, and are potentially the first club in the UK to do this! The club also works together with Two Minute Beach Clean and Bristle to promote sustainable products, an example being the design and creation of reusable, metal water bottles with Two Minute Beach Clean. On the beaches themselves, the club are in the process of creating and putting in place and information board at Broad Beach to show the impacts of plastic pollution, the importance of clean beaches and how people can get involved and help. Further to this, whenever the club go for a surf they carry out a quick beach clean before getting in the water and organise larger beach cleaning events, weather permitting.

Sailing:

In 2016-17 Bangor University's Sailing Club were the winners of The Green Blue University Sailing Sustainability Challenge, receiving £500 for their club. This challenge, launched by The Green Blue, as part of the joint programme of the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine, aims to challenge universities to undertake various sustainability actions throughout the academic year. This is to demonstrate to the wider community how achievable sustainable boating can be. This year (2018-19), the club took part in the award again and got off to a great start! Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances they weren't able to complete all the challenges and missed out on an award. We wish them the best of luck for future challenges with this award!
