Green Impact Students' Unions (GISU) is a sustainability accreditation scheme run by NUS offering an independent benchmarking of a union’s sustainability performance.  

  • Its purpose is to: 
    • Encourage, nurture, reward, and crucially embed sustainability across the activities of a students’ union.
  • It challenges union's to: 
    • Follow environmental best practice and keep sustainability in mind while achieving results for students.
  • It seeks to capture:
    • Positive sustainability innovations in unions and promote them to the public.

We've been very successful throughout our time participating in Green Impact winning lots of national awards:

2010-11: Gold Standard.

2011-12: The Co-Operative 'Most Improved Union' Award || The Ecologist 'Communcations Challenge' Award || Gold Award.

2012-13: Green Impact Excellence Award (Bangor Bikes Scheme).

2013-14: Union of the Year (Non-Trading) || Resurgence and Ecologist Communications Challenge Award || Gold Award.

2014-15: Green Impact Excellence (Love Bangor Partnership) || Top 5 Scoring Students' Unions Nationally.

2015-16: Union of the Year (Non-Commercial) || Special Award for a joint student initiative to Promote Sustainable Development through shared learning across continents (Partnership between Undeb Bangor and Makerere University-Uganda || Gold Award.

2016-17: Excellent Award.
